From the outset, I was assured that my position was a newly created role designed to have lasting importance within the company, not an experiment. I was consistently praised as an asset to the team, my skills were highly esteemed, and I was told that my contributions were appreciated. Yet, these affirmations appeared to be hollow, as everything changed the moment I inquired about advancing into a higher position.
