I use to attend ISS as a kid at PS2. Now my kids attend ISS at their middle school. We were lucky enough to have gotten a spot in their program. They offer amazing activities such as cooking, sewing, and entrepreneurship which is no longer taught in the regular public school curriculum. The staff is knowledgeable and professional.

My kids have afterschool with ISS and it has been super great!!! My kids love their teachers, and their daily classes like cooking and coding class! I can always reach someone if I need to pick up them up early. Would recommend ISS to anyone.

I appreciate the program, they help with my daughter’s homework which helps me being a teacher myself after a full day with students to not have to do it at home as well. I would say i would prefer more of at least one structured/intentional activity before free play each day but my daughter loves it so im satisfied.

I appreciate the new management of ISS from the last 3-4 years; I see the impact of this new leadership in the new programming initiatives as well as pushing the boundaries of what a direct service organization can do. For example, I love THE SHOP at The Storefront for Ideas, which is a project of Immigrant Social Services.

I am a former educator and parent. I put my son in this program for the summer in hopes that it would benefit him in reading and math. Unfortunately he did not receive the educational tools he needed for the upcoming year. The staff is composed of many volunteers and students who are not even teachers yet. They are not equipped to teach a third grade class going into fourth. What I witnessed was unacceptable. I reviewed my sons classwork to see some misspelled words and improper sentence structure which tells me these "counselors" were not checking the work. I will say that the head teacher and assistant in my sons class were good. Ms. Chirbo and Ms. Sarah were committed. But a few who were rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. They need to go back to classroom management 101. I witnessed my son feel excluded at times and he conveyed to me he was excluded from activities and food. Now there excuse was that he has allergies to peanuts and thats why he could not have chicken fried trice and that the restaurant used peanut oil. I called the restaurant and they told me they used vegetable oil. in addition the first day of his trip he was passed over and not given a juice box, when I asked where is my sons juice box they had told me they ran out. This all transpired because my son was in the program for half of the day, but when I conveyed to them he still should be part of everything that goes on in the camp until I pick him up. I was given excuses. It was clear to me they did not want to take responsibility for there lack of humility towards my son. I would absolutely not recommend this program if you are looking for academic support. It is composed of 90% of the Asian community and I felt that my son did not receive the support he needed. In conclusion there are many other wonderful programs in the area that unfortunately for me were full. Lesson learned.
